So sorry, sounded great, however my daughter is part of the graduation that weekend and really wants me to be there. We only have our children around for a while, so I must. Hope to again.

No, not endurance-- rather, competitive trail riding. It is a distance-riding competition, but with different challenges than endurance. The organization of my choice is the North American Trail Ride Conference. The competitions are all 2-day rides of 25 to 35 miles each day with a set pace to be maintained. The horses are judged on condition, soundness and manners (which includes being able to negotiate some judged obstacles that require good training.) The rider is also judged on horsemanship, including equitation and care of the horse.
The photo was taken at a ride in northern Colorado a couple of years ago. Part of that ride was in a blizzard! The latest ride I completed was at Hillsdale Lake (KS) this past November. My horse placed third and I was high-point in horsemanship. I ride an Arab/Trakehner cross mare.
CTR is a unique sport that builds great teamwork between a horse and rider. It's not for everyone, but I really love it, and have been competing for over 25 years.

Hello Everyone!

Thank you so much for joining our NEC "Ning". This is like a Facebook or MySpace dedicated to Northland Equine Center, our events, current news, blogging, and chatting through a forum. It's a great way to get horsey people, and our boarders and students to connect. For those of you wanting to know more baout NEC and myself please visit NEC's website

Please feel free to start a forum ( a gret way to chat and share ideas, or have questions answered.

Profile Information

What type of horse or horses do you have?
I have 3 horses. Sugar King (Morgan), RG (TB), and Zoe (Canadian Sporthorse).
What dicipline do you ride in?
I do dressage, natural horsemanship (John Lyons), and endurance.
Why did you become a member of this NEC group?
I thought this would be a great way to get my boarders, students, and other horse lovers in the community to come together.
Tell us a little about yourself.
About Me:

I'm an ex-school teacher, married for 6 years, I have 3 dogs (they are may babies), and a bunch of horses (more babies). I'm the owner, trainer (Natural Horsemanship), and one of the instructors for NEC. We offer boarding, lessons, and training.

The Philosophy Behind NEC:

To provide the most natural and holistic living environment for our equine companions. To educate others in alternative and more holistic means for equine care, nutrition, and reward based training, as well as creating an environment for horses to just "be" horses.

My Horse Story:

I've been riding since I was 12 and showed in jumpers as a kid. I decided I wanted to do something different and began doing dressage and competing in dressage in my early 20's. I bought my horse RG around that time, and had tons of problems with him. I sent him to a million trainers without results, until I found my current teacher, Cindy McDevitt (a certified John Lyon's instructor), 5 years ago. She changed everything! RG became my wonderful perfect horse, and she taught us how to be in a loving, and respectful relationship. So I've been apprenticing with her ever since. She also got me to compete in endurance a few years ago. I had to take a break from competing in order to start my business. I hope to start again this Spring!!!
